Whole Earth Index

In 1968, Stewart Brand founded the Whole Earth Catalog.. The publication was born from the idea of self-sufficiency and a "do it yourself" mentality while reviewing anything from books to tools. It quickly became a cultural phenomenon, and its legacy continued long after the publication ended. Steve Jobs even compared it to Google in his 2005 commencement speech at Stanford University. Now, the complete archive of the counterculture magazine is online for free. From the original catalog to the short-lived spin-off Software Review, the entire index has been made available for scholarship, education, and research purposes, allowing old and new to scour digitized versions of the essays and articles.
