YangWang U8 Electric SUV

Chinese transportation conglomerate BYD has launched a new arm that aims to compete with European luxury manufacturers in the upscale EV market. The first two models will be a 1,100-horsepower hypercar called the U9 and the U8 SUV, both using a similar four-motor, all-wheel-drive layout. The U8 rides on a ladder frame with plenty of ground clearance and ultra-boxy proportions #&8212; not just a reskinned sedan with a modest lift. The quad motor layout allows for electronic control of all four wheels, allowing for tricks like spinning in place, and more usefully, driving a single wheel if needed in low-traction situations. Available for now in China only, BYD plans on marketing the U8 globally in the future.
