1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth Rookie Card

Arguably the most famous baseball player in history, Babe Ruth got his professional start in 1914 as a pitcher for the (then) minor-league Baltimore Orioles. During this era, the Baltimore News sent out baseball cards of players on local teams with its papers, making Ruth's card — printed in red and blue versions — his first. This particular card was owned by a single family for over 100 years before it was sold to a private collector in 2021. That collector is now selling it during Robert Edward Auctions' fall sale. Graded a 3 out of 10 by SGC, it's the second most well-preserved example known to exist and is among just 10 known examples, period, making it an incredibly important and desirable artifact. As such, it's expected to challenge the record of the most expensive card ever sold at auction, which is currently $12.6 million set by a mint 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle.
