1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider

Enzo Ferrari knew who to sell cars to in order to build the biggest buzz and command the prices need to sustain his racing efforts. The 250 GT California Spider was the embodiment of that ethos — a car designed with the American market in mind and aimed at the most glamorous industry in the world — Hollywood. Chassis no. 3099 GT, the 250 GT pictured here, rolled out of Ferrari's facilities in February 1962, finished in the special-request color Azzurro Metallizzato over Naturale Connolly Vaumol leather upholstery. The car went from importer Luigi Chinetti's New York showroom to California, where it was driven daily before landing in the hands of Charles Betz and Fred Peters in 1972. The car was restored to a Concours standard in 2004, received its Ferrari Classishe certification in 2008, and has been making the show circuit rounds ever since. The car goes to auction at Gooding & Co.'s Amelia Island auctions in March 2023.
