1967 Toyota 2000GT Coupe

Designed by Yamaha, passed on by Datsun, and snapped up by — of all the Japanese manufacturers — Toyota. Heavily influenced by Jaguar's E-Type, the 2000GT was a shocking departure from Toyota's supremely reliable, if supremely staid, stable of cars. An open-top 2000GT even made an appearance as 007's ride of choice in the 1967 Bond film You Only Live Twice, set in Japan — the idea of Britain's top spy driving a Toyota being unthinkable before. The Solar Red 2000GT pictured here is rare even by the 2000GT's unicorn standards, being one of 62 US-market left-hand-drive examples produced. It was owned for over 30 years by American racing driver Otto Linton and has had a concours-level restoration by Maine Line Exotics in its original color. Easily the most high-profile car to ever come from the Land of the Rising Sun, expect this 2000GT to get top dollar when it crosses the auction block.
