1974 BMW 3.5 CSL IMSA Batmobile Race Car

The CSL put BMW on the map in international sports car racing, and now one of the most significant CSLs to race in the US is coming up for auction. Purchased by Henry Schmitt in 1997, the history of chassis #987 had been forgotten, despite winning the Sebring 12 hour endurance race in 1975 before placing second in the European World Championship for Makes. Schmitt wasn't aware of the vehicle's history until 2017 and had raced the car hard in vintage events the entire time he owned it. This car has spent a lifetime on the track and is in mechanically excellent condition, ready to get back on the track. The car will be up for auction in January 2021 courtesy of Stratas Auctions.
