The Camel Trophy and its iconic sandglow Land Rovers traveled to Mongolia for the 1997 round of the brutal off-road competition. The format of the event was changed for the first time since its inception in 1980, with teams mapping out their own routes with the emphasis being on exploration rather than traversing a strict course. The Land Rover Discovery was the SUV for the event, and received GPS equipment, brush bar, winch, skid plates, snorkel, upgraded suspension and driveline, and a custom roof rack that carried a kayak and two mountain bikes. This Camel Trophy Discovery is one of 20 that took part in the 1997 event and comes with the kayak and mountain bikes that it originally carried. In incredible condition considering the abuse it took, the SUV will go to auction in Paris in February.
