2004 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500 Truck
The Unimog is a side of Mercedes that we hardly ever get to see here in the States — the huge, brutally over-engineered side that's a legend in the rest of the world. One of the toughest trucks you can get, it's even rarer to see one up for sale here, as they last forever and tend to stay in the same hands for nearly as long. This 2004 Unimog U500 is one of only 200 that came to the US and is barely past break-in with under 19,000 miles on the clock. Under the cab, in this case, is 6.4-liter turbodiesel putting 700 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed preselector manual transmission. In addition to four-wheel-drive, the U500 has portal axles that maximize ground clearance, a central tire inflation system, air brakes, and a dump bed. Inside the four-door cab are vinyl seats and composite coating on the floors to easily hose out whatever parts of the outdoors you track in.
