Land Rover is continuing to make strides towards electric vehicles with the Range Rover Sport HST, the first mild electric hybrid from the British SUV manufacturer. The centerpiece of the Sport HST is the all-new Ingenium inline-six motor. A 48-volt electrical system powers a supercharger, giving an immediate boost to power and torque without the lag of turbochargers or the power-robbing belt drive of a supercharger. The 48-volt electrical system also recovers energy while driving and provides a boost during takeoff from a standstill while helping improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. The Sport HST will be sold as a special model, with badging and carbon fiber trim that helps differentiate it from other Range Rovers. Inside, the HST has 16-way power seats trimmed in a red-and-black color scheme, along with all the electronic goodies you'd expect. The Sport HST will be on sale in England; sales in other countries have yet to be announced.
