Anekona House
Sited in the desert highlands of Hawaii's Big Island, the Anekona House is an off-grid retreat with impressive views. The home is situated to take advantage of the surrounding volcano peaks, lava escarpments, and the Pacific Ocean. Inspired by the rugged landscapes, the structure takes on a natural palette of site-cast concrete, local hardwoods, lava rock, and blue stone gravel. Living spaces are housed below a steel roof where glazed doors slide open, transforming the interior into an open-air pavilion overlooking a wild stream and the coastal scenery. Completely self-contained, the dwelling is powered by rooftop solar array while natural ventilation and cooling and LED lighting help minimize energy usage.
