Apple HomePod 2 Speaker
Launched in 2018, Apple's original HomePod sounded fantastic but had serious limitations. Five years later, the second-generation model is far better positioned for success. It's powered by an S7 chip — as found in the Apple Watch Series 7 — enabling features like Thread/Matter support, spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, and improved automatic adjustment based on where it's placed in the room. Also new are built-in temperature and humidity sensors, useful for smart home automation, and the ability to listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. It's ever-so-slightly shorter and lighter than its predecessor but looks largely the same, and has an upward-firing woofer with five tweeters for room-filling sound. As with the first-generation, two units can be paired together for greater stereo separation, or used with an Apple TV 4K as a surround system, and also like the original, it's available in white or very dark grey.
