1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster
Despite the Gullwing getting the lion's share of attention, the 300 SL reached perfection in its roadster trim. One of the most advanced cars of its time, the 300 SL featured a lightweight tubular chassis and a fuel-injected inline-six and would set the standard for modern Mercedes autos going forward. The immaculate grey-over-red leather 1957 300 SL roadster pictured here was sold new in the United States. The early history of the car is largely unknown, but the car had returned to its native Germany by 1990. A restoration was started in 1993, changing hands several times after being completed. After a quick stop in Greece from 2008 to 2013, the car arrived in the UK, where it is being offered for sale by RM Sotheby's.
