Chrome OS Flex

Old, outdated laptops and devices rejoice — Chrome OS Flex is coming to the rescue. Google's Chrome OS Flex follows up on Cloudready, a cloud-based operating system by Neverware that was acquired by Google. Chrome OS Flex uses the same codebase as Chrome OS in a lightweight software package, giving new life to old hardware by relying on cloud computing. Since Chrome OS and OS Flex share the same code, both systems will receive updates at the same time and have consistent UIs and functionality across PC or Mac platforms. Google claims Chrome OS Flex can run on hardware up to 13 years old while sidestepping degraded performance over time. Chrome OS Flex is now in early access, with a full release expected in the coming months.
