Geoff Hollister's Nike 1 License Plate

Geoff Hollister met Bill Bowerman while running for the University of Oregon in 1964. The same year, the track coach and Phil Knight started Blue Ribbon Sports, which later became Nike, and Hollister was their first employee. He spent the early 1970s taking the brand's first signed runner, Steve Prefontaine, across the country to track meets, fairs, and colleges to help spread the word in his blue Volkswagen bus with a license plate that read "Nike 1." The original yellow and blue Oregon vanity plate is the only thing left of the iconic van and is now up for auction. Bidding ends on December 18, 2023.
