Kurt Cobain Stage-Smashed Fender Guitar

After the release of their debut album Bleach, Nirvana went on tour across the South and Mid-West. Playing small venues, Kurt Cobain and the group took to dismantling the stage The Who-style "if the feeling's right". On July 9, 1989, at the Sonic Temple in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Kurt destroyed a circa 1973 Fender Mustang after closing the show with the song "Blew". A few days later, Kurt met Sluggo Cawley from the band Hullabaloo, who admired a smashed Gibson SG hanging on Sluggo's wall — and the two traded broken guitars. Kurt signed the guitar for Sluggo, and the rest is history. The guitar is currently up for auction via Julien's Auctions.
