Land Rover Defender Works V8 Conversion
Land Rover's Classic division used to build V8 power into new Defenders only. Now it drops the same conversion into classic Defender 90 and 110 models from 2012 to 2016, the prized workhorses and collector's items for so many existing Defender owners. The program swaps in a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that makes 405 horsepower and 515Nm of torque through an eight-speed ZF automatic. Land Rover reinforces the chassis to carry it, upgrades the suspension with Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs, and fits four-piston Alcon brakes to match the added power. Engineers redesign the transmission tunnel and gear selector to clear the new drivetrain, then finish the cabin with Works V8 badging. Owners can take the full conversion or choose à la carte packages for the cosmetic and handling upgrades alone, built at Classic Works facilities in the UK and Germany.
