Steve McQueen's 1970 Chevrolet K5 Blazer SUV

Steve McQueen acted to finance his racing career — or that's how it looks on paper. McQueen's Solar Productions purchased this 1970 K5 Blazer in 1969 as part of his Baja racing team, most likely as a tow vehicle. McQueen's team installed positraction front and rear axles and a GMC Jimmy four-headlight grille for better lighting in the desert. The truck remained in McQueen's stable for just two years, with Bob Bianchi purchasing the K5 in 1971 when he saw a local ad offering it to the first person to show up that Friday with $1,800. After a 13,000-mile road trip in 1972, the K5 was used as a family car until 2001, when retired to weekend mountain cruises. A copy of the original dealer invoice from December 1969 with McQueen's Solar Productions as the purchaser is included in the auction.
