Wayne Newton's 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SL Convertible

Barrett-Jackson's Las Vegas 2021 is featuring a former ride of Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton. The original Las Vegas "artist in residence", Mr. Newton's custom 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SL convertible will be on the block, and it's unlike any other. Built by Long Island-based designer Niko Sokol, this 380SL was extensively reworked with styling cues from the prewar era. While it would be easy to overstep the line into gaudiness, Sokol's lines strike a crisp balance between classic cabriolets and sharp '80s styling. The standard removable hardtop was reworked into a manually folding design that hides completely away. Numerous panels and trim were fabricated, and the gold trim is plated in real gold — a car that could only be found in Vegas.
