2002 Porsche Cayenne Convertible

Porsche introduced the Cayenne in 2002, proving that they could bring Porsche-worthy performance to an SUV. Porsche previewed several concepts apart from the standard model we know today, from a stretched version with a third-row seat, a two-door coupe, and the unconventional convertible shown here. Porsche built the one-off model as a proof-of-concept only, with none of the additional structural additions necessary to make it road-worthy. As such, it was trailered to shows and never driven. The concept tested several aspects, such as how the top mechanism would work, the seating layout, and variations on the design of the rear. The Cayenne is now a museum piece for display only, with the folding fabric top stowed in the trunk and manually replaced when needed.
