Black Tomato's reputation is based on curated and personalized trips like its Eater-backed culinary journey and Hemingway-inspired centenary tour through France and Spain. But its Special Projects division takes that customization approach to the limit, planning entirely unique adventures for trips too complicated for a normal travel agency to handle. For one family reunion, the team flew a helicopter fleet of guests to the top of an Alaskan glacier to go dog-sledding. For another, they built a full luxury camp, complete with hot tubs and bubble tents, at a precise eclipse line in a remote corner of Patagonia. A Scottish Highlands trip for one extended family included a convoy of vintage Land Rovers, three golf days, and a surprise lakeside barbecue where the park's gamekeeper smoked salmon and venison to go with the whisky. For a multi-generational reunion in rural Japan, local artisans demonstrated traditional crafts before the family was serenaded by musicians and given a travel blessing from a Yamabushi monk. Every trip is planned entirely from scratch, with a dedicated team assigned from the first phone call through the return home, and nothing is repeated for another client.
