Green Valley Ranch Montana
The Green family homesteaded this land in the early 1900s, not long after Glacier National Park was created, running a sawmill and hauling logs out by hand and horse-drawn sled through the winter months. They sold it in 1947, and it operated as the Desert Mountain Lodge dude ranch for the next fifty years, until George and Gussie Green's descendants bought their family's original land back in 1999. The 477-acre property sits less than ten minutes from Glacier's west entrance, bordered on three sides by Flathead National Forest, with a five-and-a-half-mile perimeter that's almost entirely adjacent to public land. At its center is a 10-acre meadow anchored by a historic barn, overlooking a half-acre private pond and more than a quarter mile of frontage on the 17-acre West Lake. Architect Larry Pearson designed the main lodge in the Glacier Park tradition, built from reclaimed logs and native stone with a two-story stone fireplace, six bedrooms, and six bathrooms across more than 5,300 square feet, alongside a separate guest cabin and caretaker's residence that bring total sleeping capacity to 24. The current owners have also run it as a wedding and event venue, once named one of Brides.com's most unique wedding sites, though a new owner has no obligation to continue that.
