Hookie Co. Yard Built Yamaha XSR700 Motorcycle

Yamaha's Yard Built program reaches out to professional builders to see what they can dream up with one of the company's many models. This year it was the XSR700 taking center stage, a small-displacement bike made to be fun and infinitely customizable. Hookie Co.'s entry took the XSR700 in a more modern direction than Yamaha's brief — playful, sporty, classic — specified. Eschewing curves for angular lines, the Grasshopper takes its design cues from modern motocross and flat track bikes. A custom aluminum tank replaces the original unit with translucent yellow acrylic pieces lit by LEDs in place of the cover panels. The new Alcantara seat, rear hoop, and finned brake light bolt directly to stock mounting points, along with all the other custom parts — meaning no hacking or welding are required. If you like the look, you're in luck — Hookie Co. plans on a production run that will be available to consumers.
