TAG Heuer Formula 1 Gulf Chronograph Watch

Steve McQueen wore a TAG Heuer Monaco while driving a Gulf-liveried Porsche 917K in his 1971 film Le Mans, and that pairing of blue, orange, and titanium has outlasted the movie itself. TAG Heuer's fourth Formula 1 collaboration with Gulf Oil is also its first automatic: a 44mm sandblasted Grade 2 titanium case housing the Caliber 16 chronograph movement, a Sellita-based automatic running at 28,800 vph with a 42-hour power reserve. The bezel is forged carbon, cut with a tachymeter scale and the Gulf wordmark beside the crown's orange lacquer ring. On the dial: twin blue and orange stripes run vertically off the chapter ring, framing three chronograph subdials in matching colors. The solid titanium caseback is engraved with the Gulf logo rather than a display window, keeping the movement out of sight. Production is capped at 1,000 pieces.
