Vacheron Constantin Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar Watch

The perpetual calendar's oldest problem is that it only works when it's running. Stop the movement and you face resetting a web of interconnected date, day, month, and leap year displays, often requiring a special tool and precise timing. Vacheron Constantin first addressed this in 2019 with the Twin Beat's dual-frequency system, and the updated version extends its solution further. A push-button at 8 o'clock switches the manually wound calibre 3610 QP between Active mode at 5Hz and Standby mode at 1.2Hz, with the calendar continuing to advance accurately throughout. The updated movement brings Standby power reserve to 70 days, up five from the original, through a new double-gear spring-winding mechanism that requires four times less torque than conventional date-change systems. The 42mm platinum case measures 12.3mm thick and houses 480 components across 64 jewels. The dial is split between an 18k gold upper plate with hand-guilloché in slate grey and a transparent sapphire lower section that exposes the movement, paired with a textured black calfskin strap with red contrast stitching and a platinum pin buckle.
