In the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide in 1994, Kate Ashby was adopted and raised in the UK by world-renowned human rights lawyer Eve Ashby. Kate has battled with her past her entire life and is now working as a legal investigator alongside her adoptive mother. The relationship between Kate and Eve approaches the breaking point when Eve takes a case against a militia leader in the International Criminal Court — and Kate finally confronts the shadow hanging over her since her birth. Written and directed by Hugo Blick, Black Earth Rising stars Michaela Coel, Harriet Walter, and John Goodman. The limited series premieres January 25, 2019, on Netflix.
