During World War II, the conflict wasn't fought only on battlefields in Europe, but also on the silver screens in the States. With the war half a world away, the best way to bring the seriousness of the conflict home was through film. So the U.S. packed up five directors and sent them into war zones — where they captured the fight and its aftermath for the citizens back home.
