1981 BMW M1 Coupe

A homologation special to be co-developed by Lamborghini and finally becoming the first car built under the M Motorsport arm gives the M1 a special place in BMW's history. Just 399 road-going M1s were produced over a three-year run, adding rarity to its impressive resume. An M88 3.5-liter inline-six sits amidships, mated to a five-speed gearbox. The M1 pictured here is one of three believed to be finished in Polaris silver at the factory. The car traveled from France to Japan and Belgium, before settling in the United States where it will go to auction at RM Sotheby's Miami event in March.
