2005 Porsche Carrera GT Rosso Fuoco
Milton Verret, a well-known Ferrari collector, decided his Porsche needed to wear the wrong badge's color, and he went all the way to do it right. Karosserie, a restoration shop in Wayne, Pennsylvania, stripped the Carrera GT down to its bare carbon-fiber tub and spent three months rebuilding it in Rosso Fuoco, a genuine Ferrari paint-to-sample shade Porsche never offered on this car. Mechanically, it's still stock: a 5.7-liter V10 born from Porsche's canceled Le Mans prototype program, 603 hp and 435 lb-ft routed through a 6-speed manual, good for 205 mph, with a removable roof panel that puts the engine note between you and nothing else. This example is one of 644 delivered new to American buyers out of 1,270 built worldwide, and it's covered only 3,471 miles since. It's now heading to auction, with no pre-auction estimate published, though recent comparable sales suggest the hammer price will be steep even by Carrera GT standards. Repainting a modern classic in a rival marque's signature color usually reads as sacrilege, but on this one, it just looks right.
