Can-Am built two concept vehicles at once and gave them opposite jobs. The Defender Prerunner, built in a 6x6 configuration on the Defender platform, is designed as a remote race support vehicle, the kind that chases competitors through events like King of the Hammers, carrying spare tires and parts in a trophy-truck-inspired bed and running 35-inch tires built to cross nearly any terrain. The Maverick R XRay goes the opposite direction: built on the Maverick R platform in a two-wheel-drive configuration with paddle tires for sand, it's designed for Glamis dune culture rather than desert racing, wrapped in an exoskeleton structure with backlit, translucent panels that glow red under braking and run custom lighting patterns after dark. Both are one-off concepts, not headed to production, part of a stated Can-Am commitment to release major off-road news every six months for the next four years.
