Jackson Pollock's Former West Village Apartment

In 1932, Jackson Pollock took up residence at 46 Carmine Street, alongside his brother Charles, as the two studied with Thomas Hart Benton. The Federal-style townhouse has had many lives, from a milliner's shop selling hats and bonnets in the 1850s to a landmarked building inside the Greenwich Village Historic District. Its top-floor one-bedroom, now for sale, rises over its lower neighbors, with treetop views, 14-foot ceilings, beams, exposed brick and bright skylights. An upstairs loft can serve as an office or studio, and a communal garden out back comes with a grill.
