The 'Batman Returns' Batmobile

This Batmobile isn't a replica built for display, it's the actual No. 1 hero car Michael Keaton drove throughout Batman Returns in the 1992 film's driving sequences. Production designer Anton Furst and illustrator Julian Caldow designed it as a continuation of the Batmobile introduced in Tim Burton's original 1989 film, built from two Chevrolet Impala chassis welded together into a single 20-foot frame. Builder Carl Casper constructed three total cars for Batman Returns, of which this is one. Its glossy black paint remains entirely original, unaltered since filming wrapped, and after appearances at the movie's premiere and a Warner Bros. backlot party, it spent years in storage before going on public display at the Marconi Automotive Museum. It is anticipated to set a new record for a movie car going to auction, potentially surpassing the $4.62 million George Barris' 1966 TV Batmobile brought in back in 2013.
