Eric Clapton's 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/4
Eric Clapton bought this Ferrari 275 GTB/4 in 2003 and immediately commissioned a 12-month restoration to return it to its original Grigio Argento paint, the silver shade most associated with the model. Clapton sold the car two years after restoring it, and the next owner repainted it metallic dark blue. Now in a long-term paint war, the current owner, yacht designer Terence Disdale, has spent two more years and roughly $250,000 returning the car to silver once again. Chassis 09261 is one of just 31 right-hand-drive examples built between 1966 and 1968, and likely the first GTB/4 to ever race. Its original owner campaigned it competitively in East Africa before selling it to a business partner who bet a DC-3 pilot that the Ferrari could beat the twin-engine plane from Nairobi to Mombasa, a 300-mile run on barely paved roads. The Ferrari won.
