Renault 8 Gordini Concept Coupe

Jean Ragnotti, the rally driver who won Monte Carlo and the Tour de Corse for Renault behind the wheel of a 5 Turbo, first learned to drive on a Renault 8 Gordini, the 1964 coupe whose double white stripe became a motorsport signature. Renault's new concept keeps that stripe, but turns it into a structural line running the length of the body, and swaps the original's 95 hp rear-mounted engine for a 270 hp electric motor while keeping the rear-wheel-drive layout. Six round headlights are built into the front end in place of the original two, on a body finished in a three-layer Bleu de France paint with a mother-of-pearl effect, and the cabin pairs Alcantara upholstery with blue corduroy seats and brushed aluminum trim. Renault built it as a one-off design study, part of a five-year project reviving its past models ahead of a new museum opening in Flins.
